The Southend Echo printed a few responses to its report on the proposed “development” at Fossetts Farm…

However, they didn’t print this:

Councillor Mary Betson, attempting to reassure High Street shops that an out-of-town retail park full of new shops couldn’t possibly be in any way damaging to them, refers to her “gut feeling”. It is worrying that in a matter of such importance, Councillor Betson should be distracted by a sensation in her intestines: I suggest she goes to the hospital to get this checked out, although most likely it’s nothing serious, just a bad case of wind.

This has to be one of the best put downs of a local politician that we’ve read in a long while:) On a slightly more serious note, when we get the chance, we’ll be commenting on the flawed development proposal for Fossetts Farm…

A bit off our manor but a nice example of residents putting councillors in their place.
